Abstract: Mesoporous titania materials were synthesized using non-surfactant organic compounds, such as 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic acid(BHPA), glycerin(Gln) and pentaerythritol(Pent), as templates via the HCl-catalyzed sol gel process. The resultant products have been examined with TGA, BET, XRDand TEM. BETstudies show that the N2 adsorption desorption isotherm plots of the samples prepared with BHPAas a template exhibit type Ⅳ isotherms, which suggest the formation of mesoporous structures. The surface area and pore volume increase slightly with the increasing content of organic template while the pore size is nearly constant (3~4nm) with a narrow distribution about 0.5~0.8 nm. The formation of the titania mesoporous materials is proposed due to the presence of the hydrogen bonding interactions between templates and inorganic precursors.
