Abstract: The underlying master equation for the chemical Lorenz system was examined in this paper. Ensemble simulation investigations show that in the chaotic regime the mass action description was related neither to the ensemble mean nor to the most probable values. These indicate that in the chaotic regime, the phenomenological description is no longer useful snd cannot be justified from the underlying mesoscopic description.
