Abstract: Poly(2-methoxy-5-hexyloxy-p-phenylene vinylene) and poly(2-methoxy-5-nonyloxy-p-phenylene vinylene) were synthesized through dehydrochlorination with p-methoxy phenol as raw materials. The effect of solvents and substituents on polymerization and polymer solubility was discussed. The structure of polymers was identified by UV/Vis, IR and 1H NMR.

Key words: Poly(p-phenylene vinylene), Alkoxy-substituents, Dehydrochlorination
