Abstract: The catalytic action of imidazole and its derivatives in the reaction of β-carotene oxidative decomposition has been studied for employing meso-tetramesityl-porphinatoiron (Ⅲ) chloride(FeTMPCI)as the catalyst and m-chloroperbenzoic acid as the oxidant in dichloromethane by means of Beckmann Du-8Bspectrophotometer.Imidazole and its derivatives are not only the axial coordinate ligand but also a kind of catalyst. The reasonable mechnism of the reactions was postulated. The data were simulated with IBM-PCcomputer, the reaction rates were obtained. the effect of reaction condition on the rate of reaction was discussed.
