Solid-Liquid Phase Equilibria and Excess Gibbs Free Energies for p-Xylene+Cyclohexane,p-Xylene+Dimethyl Sulfoxide

Abstract: Melting temperatures have been measured and the solid-liquid phase diagrams were constructed for p-xylene+cyclohexane, and p-xylene+ dimethyl sulfoxide.They are simple eutectic systems.Eutectic temperatures and compositions are 240. 96 K, 0.825 and 280.99K, 0.53Ofor(1-x)p-C6H4(CH3)2+xC6H12 and(1-x)p-C6H4 (CH3) 2+x(CH3)2SO, respectively. Excess molar Gibbs free energies were calculated at 313.15 K.The largest values of are 233.7 and 1224. 8/mol for(1-x)p-C6H4 (CH3) 2+xC6H12 and (1-x)pC6H4(CH3)2+x (CH3)2SO, respectively, showing positive deviations from ideal-solution behvior.The latter deviation is very large, especially.
