Abstract: It was found that in the fast atom bombardment mass spectra of α-amino acids, when a pair of enantiomers, D-ephedrine and L-pseudoephedrine, were used as the reaction reagents, the relative abundances of characteristic ions formed by the stereoselective reaction between a sample and a reagent of different configurations were different, from which the chirality of α-amino acids could be detected.
