Abstract: Two new kinds of polymers were synthesized by low temperature solution polycondensation by using N-2, 5-dihydroxy benzylidene-4-substitued aniline and diacid chloride with different structures as the monomer. The liquid-crystalline behavior of the polymers was characterized by DSC, polarizing microscopy with a heatlng stage and X-ray diffractometer. It was found that one kind of the polymers was nematic thermotropic liquid crystal polymers, and the other kind of polymers was non-liquid-crystalline. The intrinsic viscosities, Tm and Ti of the polymers changed regularly with the change of the structure of the monomers.
