Abstract: Two Ga-substituted saponites with different amount of gallium were synthesized by hydrothermal method. The pillared clays were prepared by cross-linking with hydroxyl aluminium oligomer,The results show that the amount of acidity of the samples increases with that of gallium in the tetrahedral sheet, and both Brnsted and Lewis acid sites are present on the surfaces of the samples, and the Bacid sites decrease after cross-linking with Al(13) oligomer. The studies on the catalytic properties show that the activity is correlative to the amount of gallium in the tetrahedral sheet.

Key words: Cross-linking Ga-substituted saponite, Surface acidity, Cracking reaction, Disproportionation reaction
