Semi-Continuous Emulsion Copolymerization of Vinyl Acetate and Butyl Acrylate

Abstract: Copolymerization of vinyl acetate and butyl acrylate was carried out by using semi-continuous emulsion process.Monomer conversion, particle size, particle number of latexes and micromolecular structure and thermodynamical properties of the copolymers were measured and compared with corresponding copolymers prepared through batch process.Results show that homogeneous copolymers and latex particles could be obtained by semi-continuous process and the properties of copolymers are very significantly different from those of batch copolymers.
