Abstract: This paper reports the extraction properties and mechanisms of a non-protein active matter penicillin Gby reverse micelles using the phase transfer technique for the first time.It is shown that the mechanisms of the phase transfer extraction of penicillin Gusing CTAB/n-octanol : chloroform(4 : 1) reverse micellar system are ion-pairing electrostatic interactions and micellar solubilisation. It is also shown that the extraction is above 90% in the pHrange from 5 to 8 in which penicillin Gis stable at room temperature.
