Studies of the Ligand and Sodium Complex of Polysiloxanes with Liquid-Crystal Crown-Ether-Containing Side Chains

Abstract: Anew ligand and sodium complex of poiysiioxanes with liquid-crystal crown-ether-containing side chain woe synthesized by the hydrosilyiation reaction using mesogenic monomer, 4-(allyloxy)-4' -(4' -carboxybenzo-15-crown-5)-α,to-diphenoxybutane and poly(methylsiloxane) with Cp2PtCl2 as catalyst.The liquid crystalline behavior of the monomer, liganci and complex was studied by DSCand polarized optical microscopy.It was found that they are thermotropic.
