Abstract: According to the fundamental principles of thermodynamics, the stable form of a liquid floating on another immiscible liquid has been discussed for all the combinations of the three interfacial tensions, and the relationship between the interfacial tensions and the contact angles of liquid drop-Neumann' s triangle has been derived. The relative Helmholtz free energy curved-surfaces of the system have been plotted for certain types on the basis of the calculated values.

Key words: Interfacial free energy curved-surface, Contact angle, Neumann's triangle
