Abstract: The IR,UVand 1H NMR spectra of 9-hydroxy-fluorene-9-carboxylic acid was determined and explained. Its geometry structure parameters were obtained by optimization with MNDO method and it is found that the parameters are consistent with the X-ray diffraction results of its methyl ester. The positions of 9-substituents is unsymmetrical to the molecular plane. The hydroxy and the carboxyl are located on the two sides of the fluorene plane respectively.

Key words: 9-Hydroxy-fluorene-9-carboxylic acid, Copper complex, Zinc compolex, MNDO method
