Abstract: The relationship between structure and properties of high density polyethylene (HDPE)/ acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR) blends was studied. The results show that a small amount of NBRcan greatly improve the environmental stress crack resistance(ESCR) and the impact strength of HDPE. WAXDreveals that NBR in the blends can give itself an orientation to a certain extent on the phase interface when NBRcontent is small. The particles of NBR with a side of 0.2 μm (average size) can disperse in HDPEphase when NBR content is less than 20%, and can't be extracted out with benzene, indicating that smaller NBRwould favour entanglement with HDPE. The interaction between HDPE and NBR was identified by DMA. The scheme for the interaction between HDPE and NBR was proposed.
