Abstract: From the aerial parts of Saussurea Hieracioides Hook.F (Compositate), a new sesquilignan, saussol(E₅), and eight previously reported compounds, scopoletin(E₁), umbelliferone(E₂), chrysoeri-ol(E₃), luteolin(E₄), arctiin(B₁), skimmin(B₂), luteolin-7-O-β-D-glucoside(B₄) and syringin(B₅) were isolated.Their structures were elucidated on the basis of the spectral data, MS (EI, CIand FD), ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, DEPT, IR, UV, and comparison with the authentic samples.Skimmin and sy-ringin are reported for the first time from Saussurea genus.
