Abstract: The solid fluorescent complexes of 1,8-naphthyridine-N-oxide with alkaline earth nitrates have been synthesized. The new complexes have the composition M(napyo)a(NO3), (M = Mg, Ca, Sr) and Ba (napyo)2(NO3),·H2O determined by elemental analyses. Their solubilities in various solvents and molar conductance in methanol have been determined. The 1Rspectra show that the oxygen atoms in 1,8-naphthyridine-N-oxide are coordinated to the metal ions of alkaline earth. The fluorescence spectra indicate that the fluorescence intensity of the complexes decreases successively from Mg to Ba. The DTA-TGdata show that the complexes are all relatively thermally stable.
