Abstract: Natural-abundance 15N and 13CNMR chemical shifts of eight 4-substituted 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidines have been measured. It is found that the 15N chemical shift is correlated with the electronegativity of the 4-substituent, indicating a long-range interaction of the 4-substituent on the 15N chemical shift. Alinear relationship is also present between the 13C chemical shifts and the electronegativity of the 4-substituted atoms.
