Abstract: Acetylation of chitin with acetic anhydride was investigated using p-toluene sulfonic acid,perchloric acid or a mixture of p-toluene sulfonic acid and perchloric acid as catalyst.It was found that with these methods products having high degrees of acetylation and good solubility in formic acid could be obtained.
