Abstract: Amethod of synthesis of tertiary alkyl mercaptans by the reaction of sulfuric acid and thiourea with tertiary alkyl alcohol is suggested in this paper. Six tertiary mercaptans have been prepared by this method. For the tertiary butyl mercaptan, the method of synthesis is further studied both by changing the concentration of sulfuric acid and by replacing sulfuric acid with hydrochloric acid or phosphoric acid.
