Abstract: 24 new l-acyl-2-phenoxymethyl benzimidazoles and derivatives of 1-phenoxyacetyl imidazole have been prepared by the reaction of 2-sub-stituted benzimidazoles or imidazole with acyl chloride in the presence of organic bases such as trithylamine, pyridine or imidazole itself. The derivatives 1-phenoxyacetyl imidazole were readily converted into their imidazole salts when they were exposed to the air.It has been shown that some of them enhance or inhibit the growth of wheat from the results of wheat coleoptile segment test.
