Abstract: The catalytic activity of a new soluble metal porphyrin coordination compound, tetrakis- ( p-trimethylammoniophenyl ) porphyrin iodide C56H60N8I4·6H2O(CoTAPPI) in the reduction of carbon dioxide has been investigated by electrochemical method. Experiments revealed that CO2 could be electroreduced in the presence of CoTAPPI. The cathodic voltammogram had a current peak around - 1.5V(vs.SCE). The main product of the reduction was CO.
