Abstract: Borohydride exchange resin (BER) was synthesized by a commercial macroporous strong basic anion exchange resin. Some nitrogenous functional groups, such as nitro, cyano and diazo compounds were reduced by using this polymeric reducing agent under the catalysis of some metal compounds, such as CuCl2, CoCl2 and NiCl2, respectively. The effects of the reaction temperature and solvents, etc.on reducing reaction were also investigated. The reducing reaction mechanism was proposed. It is found that BER-CuCl2/EtOHsystem was effective for reducing nitro, cyano and diazo compounds.

Key words: Borohydride exchange resin (BER), Polymeric reducing agent, Polymer-supported reagent, Metal boride
