Abstract: The thermal decomposition of lanthanum hydroxide dihydrogen diphthalate monohy-drate, LaOH (C8H5O4)2·H2O, was studied by thermogravimetric analysis. The products of thermal decomposition at various stages were characterized by infrared spectrometry, gas chro-matography and mass spectrography. The thermal decomposition of LaOH(C8H5O4)2·H2Oproceeded in five stages. LaOH(C3H5O4)2·H2O-La2(C3H4O2)3-La4O(CO3)3(C8H4O4)2-La2O (CO3)2 La2O2CO3-La2O3,The phthalic anhydride ami 9,10-anthraquinone were formed as the condensates of gas phase products during the first and second stages, respectively.
